World: France has condemned what it described as a “heinous attack” by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, expressing full solidarity with Saudi Arabia following the October 10 incident.
The attack reportedly killed 12 people and wounded hundreds, according to the source report. The French Foreign Ministry also confirmed that a French woman was among those injured.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, the ministry said France would continue supporting Saudi Arabia in defending its territory and critical infrastructure. Paris also called on the Houthis to stop their attacks.
France Strengthens Defensive Support
France has already committed troops and military equipment to support Saudi Arabia amid repeated Houthi missile and drone attacks.
On September 24, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the deployment of French troops, radar units and defence systems to the kingdom.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot subsequently described the assistance as “strictly defensive”, stressing that the deployment did not mean France was becoming a partner in Saudi Arabia’s war against the Houthis.
Regional Security Concerns
The latest incident has added to security concerns in the region, with France reaffirming its commitment to helping Saudi Arabia protect its territory and infrastructure.
The French government has urged the Houthis to halt further attacks as tensions continue across the region.
