UAE businesses with annual revenues of Dh50 million or more have five days left to appoint an Accredited Service Provider for the country’s electronic invoicing system, with the deadline set for October 30, 2026.
The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has urged eligible companies to meet the deadline and implement the e-invoicing system by January 1, 2027, warning that delays could result in administrative penalties.
Under the applicable legislation, businesses face a fine of Dh5,000 for each month, or part of a month, of delay in implementing the system. The penalty also applies to failure to appoint an Accredited Service Provider within the prescribed timeframe.
E-Invoicing Deadlines for UAE Businesses
The FTA has established different implementation deadlines based on annual business revenue.
Businesses earning Dh50 million or more:
- Appoint an Accredited Service Provider by October 30, 2026.
- Implement the e-invoicing system by January 1, 2027.
Businesses earning less than Dh50 million:
- Appoint an Accredited Service Provider by March 31, 2027.
- Implement the system by July 1, 2027.
The authority said the penalties are intended to encourage compliance as the UAE advances its digital transformation and adopts internationally aligned standards.
Steps Businesses Must Complete
The FTA has advised companies to begin preparations early and complete the necessary procedures before their respective deadlines.
The key steps include selecting a suitable Accredited Service Provider, signing a contract and integrating the provider’s services with the business’s invoicing systems.
Companies must also follow the required procedures through EmaraTax, the FTA’s digital tax services platform.
According to the authority, the e-invoicing system is designed to simplify, standardise and automate invoicing processes, providing benefits to businesses and other stakeholders.
FTA Conducts Pilot Testing and Awareness Sessions
The FTA said the system’s readiness was assessed during a pilot phase before mandatory implementation. The pilot examined integration procedures, user experience and the preparedness of participating parties.
The authority is following a phased implementation approach and maintaining communication with government and private-sector stakeholders to help businesses meet the requirements on time.
It has also introduced flexible implementation mechanisms and streamlined procedures to support business continuity.
In addition, the FTA continues to organise in-person awareness events across the UAE and virtual sessions covering eligibility, implementation requirements, system integration and activation through EmaraTax.
Businesses Urged to Review Official Guidance
The FTA has encouraged businesses to review the relevant legislation, requirements, procedures and guidance available on its official website.
Companies approaching the October 30 deadline should confirm their eligibility, appoint an Accredited Service Provider and complete the necessary arrangements to avoid penalties.
With the e-invoicing system being introduced in phases, businesses are advised to check their applicable deadlines and ensure they are prepared well ahead of implementation.
