India: An Air India international flight travelling from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur on Wednesday morning following a security alert after the aircraft briefly transmitted a hijack code.
Flight AI-2030 landed safely at Jaipur International Airport and was escorted to a designated isolation bay, where security procedures were initiated.
According to reports, Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control (ATC) received an emergency distress signal after the pilot briefly entered transponder code 7500, the internationally recognised code for unlawful interference or a suspected aircraft hijacking.
The transmission triggered an immediate response from aviation and security agencies.
Passengers and Crew Screened
After the aircraft landed, both pilots and all passengers were disembarked in stages under close security supervision.
Passengers and their baggage are undergoing comprehensive physical screening and security checks, according to the report.
Ground teams from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), airport security agencies and local police cordoned off the isolation bay and began a thorough security inspection of the aircraft.
NSG Placed on Standby
The National Security Guard (NSG) was also placed on standby in New Delhi in case the situation escalated.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the brief transmission of the hijack code. No further details about the cause of the alert were available at the time of publication.
