Thailand: A five-day Thailand trip from the UAE can offer two very different experiences — the energetic streets, temples and shopping districts of Bangkok, followed by the forests, waterfalls and quiet landscapes of Khao Yai.

Instead of heading straight to Thailand’s famous beaches, this itinerary spends three days in Bangkok and two days in Khao Yai, combining city experiences with nature and a slower pace.

Day 1: Dubai to Bangkok

The trip begins with a flight from Dubai International Airport to Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport.

Don Mueang provides convenient access to Bangkok and is located north of central Bangkok. After arrival, the first day can be kept relatively relaxed after the overnight flight.

A stay in Bangkok’s central Siam district offers easy access to shopping and entertainment. Siam Paragon is one of the area’s major attractions, with large retail, dining and leisure spaces.

For the first afternoon, check in, explore the surrounding Siam area, enjoy a meal and take some time to settle into the city before beginning a packed sightseeing schedule.

Day 2: Grand Palace, Temples and the Chao Phraya River

Begin the second day with the Grand Palace, one of Bangkok’s most prominent landmarks and the former residence of Thailand’s kings.

Inside the complex is Wat Phra Kaew, also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, one of Thailand’s most significant Buddhist temples.

From there, head towards the Wat Pho pier area and take a boat along the Chao Phraya River and Bangkok’s waterways.

Seeing Bangkok from the water offers a completely different perspective of the city, with historic neighbourhoods, temples and modern buildings appearing along the river.

Visit Wat Pho

Continue to Wat Pho, home to the famous Reclining Buddha.

The enormous golden figure is one of Bangkok’s best-known landmarks. Wat Pho is also one of the city’s historic Buddhist temples.

Visitors should dress appropriately and take time to appreciate the temple’s atmosphere rather than treating it simply as a photo stop.

Explore ICONSIAM

Later, head to ICONSIAM, a major shopping and lifestyle destination located along the Chao Phraya River.

The contrast between historic temples and modern shopping centres captures one of Bangkok’s defining characteristics — traditional and contemporary experiences existing side by side.

Day 3: Relax, Wellness and Rooftop Views

After two busy days, keep the third day slower.

Spend some time at a hotel or wellness facility, enjoying a spa treatment, pool or simply taking a break from sightseeing.

In the evening, head to Akara Sky Hanuman, a rooftop venue offering Thai food, drinks and panoramic views of Bangkok.

From the rooftop, the city’s roads and skyscrapers transform into a vast landscape of lights, offering a different perspective of Bangkok after dark.

Day 4: Bangkok to Khao Yai

Leave Bangkok behind and travel roughly three hours by road to Khao Yai.

The change is immediate. The dense city environment gives way to green landscapes, quieter surroundings and cooler conditions.

Khao Yai is known for its countryside and proximity to Khao Yai National Park, offering a completely different side of Thailand from the busy capital.

Stay in Khao Yai

For this part of the trip, Thames Valley Khao Yai offers a countryside-inspired setting, with stone buildings and English-style architecture surrounded by greenery.

The resort itself provides an opportunity to slow down, explore the grounds and enjoy the quieter surroundings.

Explore Khao Yai Art Forest

For an art and nature experience, visit Khao Yai Art Forest, an outdoor contemporary art space where installations are placed within the forest.

The experience begins with a 10-minute Fog Forest attraction, where mist surrounds the trees and creates a cloud-like atmosphere.

One of the notable installations is Pulsus Vitae, by artist duo Scenocosme. The interactive artwork invites visitors to place their cheek against a tree and listen to what sounds like a heartbeat coming from within.

Dinner in the Forest

Bamboo Restaurant offers a dining experience surrounded by the forest.

The restaurant uses seasonal local ingredients, including produce grown within Khao Yai Art Forest, while incorporating local culinary traditions into its dishes.

Day 5: Khao Yai National Park

Spend the final day exploring Khao Yai National Park, part of the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage property.

One of the main attractions is Haew Suwat Waterfall, a well-known waterfall measuring around 25 metres high.

The waterfall is fed by the Lam Ta Khong stream, which drops over rock into the surrounding forest.

Swimming is not permitted at the waterfall, and conditions can vary depending on the season.

A Final Stop in Bangkok

After Khao Yai, return to Bangkok before the flight home and spend the remaining time exploring Chatuchak Weekend Market.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand describes the market as having 27 sections and more than 8,000 stalls, making it one of the city’s largest shopping experiences.

Visitors can find clothing, linen, denim, souvenirs, dried mangoes, fresh food and countless small shops spread across the market.

The food section is also worth exploring, with Thai dishes and a range of vegetarian and vegan options.

Why This 5-Day Route Works

Bangkok offers temples, shopping, food, river experiences and rooftop views, while Khao Yai provides forests, waterfalls, art and a slower pace.

For UAE residents looking for an alternative to a traditional Thailand beach holiday, combining three days in Bangkok with two days in Khao Yai provides a balanced five-day itinerary.

Travel Requirements

Visa requirements depend on the passport you hold, rather than UAE residency status. Travellers with eligible passports may enter Thailand visa-free, while those requiring a visa need to apply through the official Thai e-Visa system.

Travellers must also complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) within three days before arrival, providing passport, travel and accommodation information. The arrival card is separate from a visa and does not replace one.
