UAE: Staycation bookings across the UAE have increased by 31 per cent compared with the same period last year as families prepare for the October half-term holiday, with many opting for shorter breaks closer to home.
According to dnata Travel, the UAE is the top destination booked by residents for the school break as families look for convenient holidays without the cost and planning involved in international travel.
Dubai Leads Staycation Demand
Dubai accounts for 78 per cent of dnata Travel’s UAE staycation bookings, followed by Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah.
Beach resorts and hotels located close to major attractions are attracting strong demand, particularly among families looking for activities and entertainment during their short breaks.
Travel agents said several hotels are already recording high occupancy for the holiday period, with family-friendly beach resorts and properties offering children’s activities among the most popular options.
Families Choose Short Resort Breaks
Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah are all seeing bookings from residents seeking weekend or short resort stays.
Properties on Yas Island and Palm Jumeirah are attracting strong interest because of their access to entertainment, dining and leisure facilities.
All-inclusive beach resorts are also proving popular, allowing families to manage more of their holiday costs upfront.
Family Holiday Spending Rises
dnata Travel said the average value of family bookings has increased by 6 per cent year-on-year.
Bookings through dnata Travel’s retail stores have risen 16 per cent, while bookings generated through social media channels have tripled compared with last year.
Meerah Ketait, head of Retail and Leisure UAE at dnata Travel, said families are increasingly attracted to shorter breaks because of their convenience and flexibility.
Maldives, Spain and Thailand Among Top Overseas Choices
For residents travelling outside the UAE during the break, the Maldives, Spain, France, Thailand and Mauritius are among the most-booked destinations.
Spain has recorded a 65 per cent year-on-year increase in sales, while bookings to the United States have risen 6 per cent.
