Dubai, June 8, 2026: Seven people lost their lives and nine others sustained injuries after a tragic collision involving a minibus and a truck on Emirates Road in Dubai on Monday, according to Dubai Police.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck had come to a sudden stop in the middle of the highway due to a technical malfunction. The minibus driver allegedly failed to maintain a safe distance and crashed into the rear of the stationary truck.

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said the Command and Control Centre received an emergency report of the accident and immediately dispatched traffic patrols, rescue teams, and emergency response units to the scene.

The accident claimed the lives of seven individuals, while nine others were injured. Among the injured, five suffered serious injuries and four sustained moderate injuries. All victims were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Traffic patrols secured the area, managed traffic flow, and facilitated access for rescue teams. Meanwhile, specialists from the Traffic Accident Investigation Section launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan emphasized the dangers of stopping on highways due to vehicle breakdowns, fuel shortages, or tyre failures. He urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained and roadworthy before beginning their journeys.

He also advised drivers facing unexpected breakdowns to activate hazard lights immediately, place warning triangles at a safe distance, ensure passenger safety, move away from the vehicle when possible, and contact police without delay.

Dubai Police continue to investigate the incident and have reiterated the importance of adhering to road safety measures to prevent similar tragedies.
